Jim Caviezel On Stem Cell Research & Mel Gibson

Icon Productions, Inc

Caviezel sat down with Access Hollywood
While Caviezel supports research using adult stem cells, he and the others in the ad oppose the use of human embryos.
The "Passion of the Christ" star actually speaks Aramaic at the beginning of the ad, as he did in the film.
Caviezel also opened up about his good friend Mel Gibson. "Have you reached out to him?" Shaun asked.
"Privately," Caviezel said.
"How's he doing?" Shaun asked.
"Mel Gibson is a brilliant… everyone knows he's a brilliant director, but I don't agree or support his views," Caviezel replied. "I would say that my experience working with him is such that I hope things come back around. [But] I can't support his views on that."

3 Easy Steps to Happiness

Step 1. Place Payback in the dvd player
Step 2. Watch movie until you get to the shower scene, then repeat scene as needed.
Step 3. Finish watching the entire movie.
If steps 1-2 do not work for you then replace movie with any other Mel Gibson movie. Repeat the scene of your choice as needed. I also recommend that you eat chocolate either before, during or after the movie.
Sometimes we all just need a little break from reality!

Good day for Mel, bad day for Me

Hold me now I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet Ain't so far down
CREED One Last Breath Lyrics
I'm trying to cheer myself up and it's not working. I'm having one of those days,
you know what I mean?
Here's the latest news on Mel.

The Walt Disney Co. said Wednesday that it believes that Mel Gibson's latest directorial effort, Apocalypto, will have broad audience appeal that will overcome the recent controversy surrounding his recent arrest and subsequent anti-Semitic remarks. In an interview with Reuters, Disney spokesman Dennis Rice said, "If it's a good movie, people are going to see it. ... One of the great things about Mel Gibson is that he is a great filmmaker and he has a proven track record." However, Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations, observed that the film has to overcome the controversy over Gibson. "I don't know how that cannot be a factor," he said. "His personality has come into play ... but if it's a good movie that will hold it in good stead."

PAYBACK-STRAIGHT UP

PAYBACK- STRAIGHT UP – The Director’s Cut isn’t some minor adjustment to sell DVDs – it is a complete overhaul. No Kris Kristofferson, no kidnapped son sub-plot, no boxing match and not any pulled punches. This is a mean sucker punch, gutter dirty, pissed off piece of pulp art! Mel is not “the likable superstar” in this film. He beats the shit out of Deborah Kara Unger in this version, he is straight to the point, no cookie cutter bullshit. This is the way a Parker novel by Donald Westlake should be handled. The film is leaner and meaner. There are no explosions and needless tacked on gore. This is brutal and hard-nosed… Oh, and IMMENSELY SATISFYING!!!http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30466

"Who Killed the Electric Car?"

Mercyhurst brings electric car promoter to Erie
Chelsea Sexton, who helped General Motors market the EV1 battery-electric car of the 1990s and is featured with celebrities Tom Hanks and Mel Gibson in the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?,” will be at Mercyhurst College Wednesday, Nov. 1, to introduce the film and answer questions afterward.
An offering of the Guelcher Film Series at Mercyhurst, the documentary will be shown at 2 and 8 p.m. in the Mary D’Angelo Performing Arts Center. Sexton will also speak at noon to members of the Erie Rotary Club.
At GM, Sexton worked to build a market for alternate-fuel vehicles through partnerships with corporate and nonprofit stakeholders, developed incentives and marketing strategies, and worked directly with drivers. In doing so, Sexton became well known as an advocate for clean, efficient and fun transportation.
When GM ended the EV1 program in 2001, Sexton left the company. She speaks to her involvement in the automotive giant’s program in “Who Killed the Electric Car?,” a 2006 documentary that explores the birth, commercialization and premature death of the bold technology. The film explores the role of the automobile industry, oil companies, government, and consumer indifference in limiting the development and adoption of the battery-electric vehicle.
Today, Sexton consults with auto manufacturers and clean energy providers on bringing alternate-fuel vehicles to the market. She has organized several grassroots campaigns to stop the destruction of electric vehicles and also serves as executive director of Plug In America, a coalition of individuals and groups that advocates for the preservation and manufacture of plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles.

Does ‘Apocalypto’ poses a marketing challenge?

Disney spokesman Dennis Rice said the studio believes “Apocalypto” will have broad appeal despite the subtitles, subject matter and controversy surrounding Gibson. "If it’s a good movie, people are going to see it,” Rice said. ( a Disney spokesperson) “One of the great things about Mel Gibson is that he is a great filmmaker and he has a proven track record,” he added, referring to the success Gibson has had with such films as “Passion” and the Oscar-winning “Braveheart.” Rice said Gibson will actively promote the film which will be marketed as “Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto.” Gibson has publicly apologized for his remarks during the arrest and offered a long interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer to explain what happened.
Gibson has said he hopes to find a wide audience for the film about a pre-Columbian villager who is captured by Mayans to be used as a sacrifice to appease their gods.
“One doesn’t ever make a work of art for an elite. I think that is a very selfish and big mistake,” Gibson said. The film, which cost Gibson’s Icon Productions an estimated $30 million to make, was shot in Veracruz, Mexico, using local people who had never acted.
A few reviews based on the rough cut screenings have been positive.

Positive Thoughts

BE THANKFUL
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary, because it means you've made a difference.
It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

Mel knows what we want

That's what Mel has done again. He's made a heart-stopping, mythic action-adventure that tells an ancient story in a way that matters, according to Father Jonathan Morris. Father Morris accepted Mel Gibson's invitation to preview and critique his new film “Apocalypto,” scheduled to appear in theaters on December 8th.
"Mel realized a tremendous hunger in the audience for a different kind of film. Talking about his reasoning for making “Apocalypto” he said, “People want big stories that say something to them emotionally and touch them spiritually.”

I was listening to The Clash and...

these lyrics made me think of Mel

You have the right to free
Speech as long as you're not
Dumb enough to actually try it.

You have the right to remain silent
You are warned that anything you say
Can and will be taken down
And used as evidence against you

Know Your Rights(The Clash)

The Interview

My sister told me that when she went to bed the other night the news was talking about Mels interview on GMA and when she got up in the morining, the news was still talking about him. She said that between me and the news she's sick of hearing about Mel Gibson. "Get over it already and move on."
I don't think I can get over Mel, (feels like I've been a fan all my life) but I will only make this one comment.
I watched the interview more than once and he pretty much said everything I thought he would say. Though the beers he drank when he first got home kind of suprised me but I can't judge him because I've never been in that situation. (more than likely I would of ate chocolate but that's my weakness)
Mel's in a no win situation, no matter what he says some people will believe him and other will think he just acting. "He's too twitchy" commented one news reporter. Hell, every interview I've ever seen with Mel he can't sit still, that's just Mel.
Time will tell how the public really feels, but we all know that people will forget just as soon as the next big Hollywood scandal comes along.(and you know it will happen sooner or later) Mel will be just fine. Sure every now and then for the rest of his life people will bring up the "incident on July 28, 2006" it's his cross to bear after all he's human.

Bad Timing

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is targetting the deputy who arrested MEL GIBSON for drunk driving, alleging he leaked details of the arrest report to the media. The Department obtained a search warrant and raided the home of Deputy JAMES MEE on 13 September (06). His home was cleared of his computer, telephone records and other documents. Sheriff's Department sources say the warrant was issued because officials believed Mee leaked four pages of the original arrest report to TMZ.The Department claims it's a crime for a law enforcement officer to leak confidential documents. The warrant is still sealed and the results of the search have not been made public. The Sheriff's Department claims it is still investigating charges that Department officials gave Mel Gibson special treatment and lied to the media when he was arrested on 28 July (06).On the day of the arrest, Sheriff's official told the media that the arrest occurred "without incident" - failing to mention Gibson's anti-Semitic and sexist remarks at the time of his arrest.

I hope that this doesn't over shadow Mel's GMA interview.

Gibson: I Haven't Had a Drink in 65 Days

In an interview with Diane Sawyer set to air on "Good Morning America" on Thursday and Friday, Gibson says that though staying sober is a struggle, he has not had a drink in 65 days.

He adds that he plans to continue making movies and working to heal himself and those he offended.
"All you can do is take another step, keep breathing," he says, according to a partial transcript of the interview released by ABC.

Gibson tells Sawyer he began drinking two months before sheriff's deputies arrested him in Malibu on July 28.

"Years go by, you're fine," he says. "And then all of a sudden in a heartbeat, in an instant, on an impulse, somebody shoves a glass of Mescal in front of your nose and says, `It's from Oaxaca.' And it's burning its way through your esophagus and you go, `Oh man, what did I do that for? I can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.'"

Mel also says he knows there are some in Hollywood who will refuse to work with him because of those statements.
"I feel sad because they've obviously been hurt and frightened and offended enough to feel that they have to do that," he says. "Um, and it's their choice. There's nothing I can do about that."

Pat Boone defends Mel

Did you, or anybody, ever say things rashly, in anger and frustration, you really didn't mean, that were hurtful and meant to hurt at the time, and then had to apologize profusely for? Anybody who hasn't called other people names and accused them of things you knew they didn't do, because you were mad and out of control? And you weren't even drunk?
This was not a ''nobody hurt'' incident. One person was hurt, badly. Mel Gibson. And I submit he deserves our empathy, the forgiveness for which he has asked abjectly, and our understanding of the all-too-human condition from which he suffers – humanness.

He's smiling, that's a good sign!

In an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer to air on “Good Morning America” Thursday and Friday, Gibson said he needed to heal himself and “allay the fears of others and to heal them if they had any heart wounds from something I may have said.”
“It was just the stupid rambling of a drunkard, you know and ... the last thing I want to be is that kind of monster.”

You have to respect a man that can admit when he's wrong.

*Breast Cancer Awareness Month*

Fact:Every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. This year more than 211,000 new cases of breast cancer are expected in the United States. One woman in eight who lives to age 85 will develop breast cancer during her lifetime.Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between the ages of 40 and 55.
1,600 men are expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and 400 are predicted to die.Seventy percent of all breast cancers are found through breast self-exams. Not all lumps are detectable by touch. Regular mammograms and monthly breast self-exams are recommended.Eight out of ten breast lumps are not cancerous. If you find a lump, don't panic-call your doctor for an appointment.Mammography is a low-dose X-ray examination that can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt. When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96%. This is good news! Over 2 million breast cancer survivors are alive in America today.
http://www.breastcancer.org/Early Signs:A lump is detected, which is usually single, firm, and most often painless.A portion of the skin on the breast or underarm swells and has an unusual appearance.Veins on the skin surface become more prominent on one breast. The breast nipple becomes inverted, develops a rash, changes in skin texture, or has a discharge other than breast milk.A depression is found in an area of the breast surface.Women's breasts can develop some degree of lumpiness, but only a small percentage of lumps are malignant. While a history of breast cancer in the family may lead to increased risk, most breast cancers are diagnosed in women with no family history. If you have a family history of breast cancer, this should be discussed with your doctor.

Mel Speaks

Score another big "get" for ABC, which recently secured a coveted interview with Steve Irwin's widow, Emily. Diane Sawyer has secured the first sit-down with Mel Gibson since the actor made headlines in July. The two-part interview will air next Thursday and Friday, October 12 & 13 on Good Morning America.

**By some snowballs chance in Hell that Mel or someone he knows see this, do one interview then let it go. People are going to think what they want reguardless of what you say or do. The people that understand the situation have already moved on and are waiting on pins and needles for Apocalypto! Good Luck!!!

$54m bonanza for Aussie films

TONI Collette and model-turned-actor Gemma Ward are to star in a new Australian film, one of five that have secured funding this week.
Others include Australia's first co-production with China and a big-budget vampire movie.
Collette will play the heavily pregnant mother of two boys, one of whom is autistic, in coming-of-age film The Black Balloon.
It is the first time Ward has been cast in an Australian feature film: she plays the gawky schoolgirl fancied by the younger brother.
The story draws on the family of debut director Elissa Down, who is working with producer Tristram Miall, of Strictly Ballroom fame.
All five films, together worth $54 million, received the thumbs-up this week from Film Finance Corporation Australia.
The Black Balloon is being co-financed by Mel Gibson's film company, Icon. It is understood to be the biggest financial commitment Icon has made to an Australian movie.
Roger Spottiswoode, who made the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, is directing the Australia-China-Germany co-production The Children of Huang Shi.
The film is about a British journalist and an Australian nurse who save a group of orphans during Japan's 1937 invasion of China.
Filming begins in November. It will be shot in China and Melbourne. Post-production will take place in Australia and Germany.
Producer Jonathan Shteinman believes the film will open the door to other film collaborations with China.
Daybreakers, the second film from Brisbane twins Michael and Peter Spierig, has also received backing.
Several years ago, the brothers sold their car and, while living with their parents, concentrated all their money and effort on the horror film Undead.
It won acclaim and sold to the US film company Lions Gate, which is providing substantial finance for their new film.
September, to be directed by Peter Carstairs, is the first feature financed under an initiative developed by the Sydney-based short-film juggernaut Tropfest. Tropfest founder John Polson is one of the producers.
It is about the friendship between two 15-year-olds - one white and one black - in Australia's wheatbelt in the late 1960s.
The fifth film is the thriller Acolytes, directed by Jon Hewitt.

I hope it works

Chevy Chase Defends Mel

Chevy Chase has defended his friend Mel Gibson following his infamous drunk driving arrest in July. In an episode of Law & Order to be screened next month, Chase guest stars as a TV celebrity who is pulled over for DUI while wearing blood-soaked clothes, and whose religious prejudice comes out after his arrest.
Gibson was arrested for drunk driving in Malibu, California, and made anti-Semitic comments to his arresting officers. But Chase is refusing to judge Gibson for his actions, because he was intoxicated at the time, and insists his eerily similar "Law & Order" role is a coincidence.
He says, "These statements were made under the influence of alcohol and sleep medication. I've never seen any bigotry out of Mel. I don't really know what took place, except what I've read. I respect him and I hope very much for his sake that he learns a few things and gets over this. I'm well aware that this (Law & Order episode) is familiar, but I look nothing like Mel, I'm older than Mel. He's a good friend."
