Oh my goodness, Kanye West almost wasn't a jerk.

Kanye West almost always has something to say about awards ceremonies — specifically, trophies he believes he deserves. Now, with the MTV Movie Awards coming up Sunday, West is speaking out in a very unlikely person's defense, claiming that the best film of the year was snubbed.

"My favorite movie this year was 'Apocalypto,' and I love Mel Gibson," West said. "Sometimes I feel a little like Mel Gibson. [People say to him,] 'OK, Mel Gibson, we know [your movie is] the best, but if you shut up, maybe we can give you an award.' I think that's how people feel about me sometimes: 'OK, [your album] was the best.'

" 'Apocalypto' was the best movie," West continued. "It's probably some complete bullsh-- that got nominated over it. Around the time of the awards, if you want to ask me what's the bullsh-- that got nominated, I will tell you. It's my opinion; it doesn't mean it's good or bad. I'm a movie buff."

Footnote: yes Mel bought a new home but if you want to know where it is google! In my own little way I'm trying to protect his privacy.

I knew it all along

Mel, who was not present in the Malibu, Calif. court, got major kudos from the judge who told Mel's attorney "I truly believe the rehabilitation in this case is being very effective." The judge added that he would eventually like to see Mel, but at this point "it's counterproductive to have him in the courtroom."

Gibson's attorney Blair Berk filed paperwork with the court this morning indicating he is meeting all the terms of his probation. She told the judge "He's doing extremely well."

Mel's next court date is August 23.

Mel Gibson is hoping to bring former Australian Prime Minister Harold Holt's life to the big screen. The movie mogul admits he has always been fascinated by Holt's life and death and now he plans to make a biopic about the man.
He says, "In the 1960s, Harry went for a swim on Cheviot Beach near his pad at Portsea in Victoria and never came back. That's not even half as interesting as the life the man led."
Holt was presumed dead after disappearing in December 1967 - a year after becoming Australia's 17th Prime Minister.

Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto will arrive on DVD May 22nd for the suggested retail price of $29.99 and on Blu-ray for the suggested retail price of $34.99.

Though Mel Gibson has already announced that he has no inspiration to return to past hits such as Mad Max, that doesn't mean he isn't up for a lighter fare such as a sequel to Maverick.

Gibson digs digital action

On "Apocalypto," Mel Gibson found that using the Panavision Genesis gave him a unique look.

He points to a scene where the film's hero is chased through the jungle by men carrying torches. Not only was he able to shoot using just the torchlight, but, "When you open the shutter 360 degrees, the quality of movement takes on a different quality that you don't get on film.

"The fire had a liquid thing that doesn't happen on film. The greenery and the stuff he's running by has this incredible blur effect; you can stop on any frame and it's like a Monet painting. It makes him look like he's going even faster than he really is."

Gibson was also excited about seeing those images with digital projection at the ArcLight theater in Hollywood.

"It was astounding," he says. "I think I like the (projected) image (more) than the digital image that was scanned onto film. It was almost like 3-D, it was so great and clear. And of course there's less deterioration of the actual material as you watch it." Referring to the degradation of tradition film, he adds: "You make this pristine image you want to send off like your child to school, but it comes home by 3 p.m. with a nosebleed."

For Gibson, the bottom line is simple: "I think the digital has caught the film. I don't think it's a wannabe anymore. It's an 'is.' It's a very high-class alternative."

A Santa Monica legislator is pushing a bill that would make it a crime for public safety employees to sell information to media outlets in an effort to clamp down on payments made by celebrity tabloids.

"This is a breach of the public trust, and if violated should be a crime," wrote bill author, Assem. Julia Brownley, D-Santa Monica.

Brownley introduced the bill at the request of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The assemblywoman said she has no direct knowledge that information was sold in the Mel Gibson case, but said in the instant information age, Internet sites may be paying public safety officers for access to immediate information.

"In the Mel Gibson case, we know that once he was accused it was within that evening that he had a mug shot and there was a story," Brownley said. "So does that taint his right to a fair trial? I think possibly so."

Brownley's bill, AB 920, targets peace officers, public safety employees and court employees. It also affects media outlets. Any reporter who offers to pay public safety officials for information could be subject to a misdemeanor under the legislation.

The measure unanimously passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee this week. It has no registered opposition.
I though that this was already a crime. Guess I should have paid more attention in Government class back in the day!!!!

Don't Mess With Mel

Mel Gibson has succeeded in banning a beer from a small Danish brewery, because it was called Braveheart - the same name of his 1995 Oscar-winning movie. The Hollywood star was angry the beer from Midtfyns Bryghus was called Braveheart, and even threatened to sue for the brewery's use of the name.
But the brewery's 72-year-old owner Keld Andersen initially refused to give in to pressure from Gibson, and only backed down after consulting with the Danish Patent and Trademark Council.
Andersen claimed the filmmaker couldn't possibly copyright the name as a Romanian king from the 15th century was called Braveheart and a silent film from the 1920s was titled Brave Heart.
He says, "I was certain I had a good case against those big guys in Hollywood, but evidently it wasn't enough. Gibson gets his way and the brewer admits defeat. There's nothing we can do so we'll stop making the Braveheart beer."

I Have Allies

This past Friday, (thank God I had the day off) I turned on my laptop and searched the news stories for something to blog about. Much to my suprise I came across a news story titled Mel Goes Balllistic--"Lady F--k Off" TMZ, my arch enemy.

So I prepaired for battle once again. Memories of last summer flashed through my mind when I set up basecamp in my living room battling comment after comment on that vicious website. I sign each comment pretty much the same way ADMF Lisa, or A Devoted Mel Fan.

As I posted my first comment of what I thought would be one of many, I noticed a change, 90% of all the comments were defending Mel, I was not alone in my war against Harvey Levin. By the way last summer I defended Mel so much on the TMZ website, that some of my comments were deleted. They were there for a while then poof, gone. No bad language on my part, I stayed respectable because I wanted people to listen to what I had to say. Even now my latest comment on Mel took hours too show up, I'm just saying... it's kind if weird. Harvey claims it's nothing personal against Mel but I don't believe him.

By this time my phone is ringing off the hook and everyone is asking me if I heard about Mel. "Yes, you know I'm on it already " I quickly relpy.

I go back to the TMZ website and even more people are defending Mel. Wow, this is so cool. So at this point I look at the pictures that TMZ have posted for what really was the first time, and that's when it happened again. You know, that 'Oh my God he's so hot thing' Mel had this stern look on his face, strong hands, and a, dare should I say it, a...FU look about him. Thank goodness I was sitting down or when I noticed the white wife beater tee under his faded looking red shirt, my knees buckled. "I bet he has jeans on too" I said to myself. Jeans, a suit, I don't care, I have a Mel thing. I just want to say THANK YOU PEOPLE THAT POSTED POSITIVE COMMENTS ABOUT MEL OVER THE WEEKEND. IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT I HAVE ALLIES.

LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson exchanged angry words with a university professor who challenged the accuracy of his film "Apocalypto" at an on-campus screening. Gibson was answering questions from the crowd at California State University, Northridge, Thursday night when Alicia Estrada, an assistant professor of Central American studies, accused the actor-director of misrepresenting the Mayan culture in the movie. Gibson directed an expletive at the woman, who was removed from the crowd.

"In no way was my question aggressive in the way that he responded to it," Estrada said. "These are questions that my peers, my colleagues, ask me every time I make a presentation. These are questions I pose to my students in the classroom."

Gibson's publicist, Alan Nierob, characterized the professor as "a heckler."

"The woman ... was rude and disruptive inasmuch as the event organizers had to escort her out," Nierob said.

Lauren Robeson, editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper, the Daily Sundial, said Gibson denounced Estrada as a troublemaker.

"It was a brief disruption to an otherwise interesting, stimulating event from our students' perspectives," said university spokesman John Chandler. "The students were very appreciative of Mr. Gibson being there. He spent a lot of time answering questioernational headlines. The R-rated epic about the decline of Mayan civilization shows Mayan rulers slitting throats and beheading and ripping the beating hearts from the chests of their enemies.

Human sacrifice among the Mayans has been well-documented in recent years and is accepted as fact by most anthropologists, knocking down a previous theory that the culture did not take part in such bloody rituals.

However, there are some scholars and Indian activists who still believe the human sacrifice accounts are false or overblown, and an attempt by racist scientists to paint the culture as violent.

"This isn't the Mayan culture," Juan Tiney, leader of the National Indian and Farmer Committee, Guatemala's biggest Mayan organization, told the AP. "Although it might be part of it, there was also culture, economics, astronomical wealth and language. ... It discredits a people to present them in this manner."

Gibson "did his homework and consulted with world authorities on this matter," Nierob said.

"Apocalypto" has grossed more than $100 million worldwide, and it earned three Academy Award nominations.

"Tonight We Dine In Hell"

Every now and then I come out of my Mel induced fan frenzy to comment on other things. The movie 300 is one of those times. It is a great movie, beautiful to look at, the acting is out standing. It will make you laugh, make you cry. You'll want to stand up and cheer out loud. It makes you want to be a Spartan.

One reviewer called it the poor mans Braveheart, at first I took offense, (as I tend to do when people talk about Mel. A lot of bad press can make a fan paranoid) then I saw the movie and I understood what he was saying. 300 is darker, dirtier, and yes even bloodier than Braveheart, but it will not win an Oscar unless the Academy is taken over by Quentin Tarantino. Both movies however will give you the same feeling, fight for something, fight with pride, die with pride and be proud of what you achieved and the legacy that you will leave behind.

Remember the 300.

Alright I know that I should post something about the reported 2 movies Mel might film in Panama, but I got distracted when I saw this picture. I think he looks hot. I love the smile, his relax nature, the confidence. After last summer I thought these candid shot would be hard to find I'm so happy right now to see Mel being Mel. That's all I ever wanted.

PANAMA CITY, Panama: Mel Gibson, fresh off his Mexico-based epic "Apocalypto," is thinking of heading south to film a movie in Panama, tourism officials said Monday.
Gibson, accompanied on his visit by his 24-year-old son, Edward, dined Sunday night with tourism spokesman and singer Ruben Blades, who suggested he do a remake of the 1950 film noir "Panic in the Streets," in Panama, the Panama Tourism Bureau said in a news release.
Panamanian filmmaker Jose Severino was quoted in Monday editions of the daily newspaper La Prensa as saying that he was in negotiations with Gibson to produce a movie about Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from its eastern shore.
The tourism bureau said Gibson and Blades spoke of the actor-director's experience directing "Apocalypto," an epic movie about the demise of the Mayan civilization, in the jungles of the Gulf coast state of Veracruz. The movie was released last year.
Members of the crew "became ill from the heat, insects and tropical snakes," the tourism bureau's news release said.

A record 19th loss for sound engineer

Sound engineer Kevin O‘Connell didn‘t take home an Oscar on Sunday night but he did put his name in the academy record book — for most Oscar losses, 19, without a win.
O‘Connell was nominated in the sound mixing category for "Apocalypto." He lost to "Dreamgirls."
"I would like this to happen while she‘s still around. I‘m sure she‘d like it to happen while she‘s still around," O‘Connell said.
"I‘ve definitely gotten more mileage out of losing than winning," he said. "Everybody kids me, then they all say,
We really want you to win.‘ I think they‘re tired of looking at my mug on TV."

What movies have you seen recently that impressed you? Are you seeing a lot of Japanese movies?
I don't watch that many Japanese movies. One I saw recently that really impressed me was "The Passion of the Christ." It's a movie everyone should see, whether they're Christians or not. It's heavy -- but that's why I think it's worth watching. I also liked "Braveheart."
But that's supposed to be a movie for guys.
Right, it is. And so is "Passion," for that matter. Girls start screaming when they see it. So I guess that means I'm a guy (laughs). I really like Mel Gibson's eyes -- they're beautiful. I like the way they move.

Mel Gibson told an Australian newspaper that if he was doing it all over again, he wouldn't have gotten into acting, and he'd tell his kids not to get into it, either. "I'd be a doctor or chef," says Mel.

The Mayan Language is "Cool" again.

AS Mel Gibson stirs interest in the once-repressed Mayan languages with his film Apocalypto, they are enjoying a real-life renaissance in Guatemala's mountains and jungles.A bilingual education drive in the mostly Mayan country is reviving 21 languages pushed aside since the Spanish conquest 500 years ago, some of which were close to extinction.
The club-wielding, human-sacrificing stars of Gibson's movie speak entirely in Yucatec Mayan, still used today by hundreds of thousands of people in Mexico and Belize.
It is only one of 30 Mayan languages descended from a single, 4000-year-old tongue and spoken by about five million people in Guatemala, Mexico, Belize and Honduras.
Each of Guatemala's Mayan languages is being standardised with dictionaries and school grammar books. The internet has made it easier to create and distribute.
"There has been a significant growth of young people speaking Mayan languages," Maya lawyer Amilcar Pop said.
Linguist Michael Richards said there was a major rise in areas of the country of young people three to 14 speaking Mayan languages. -REUTERS
